The Power of Brand in Leadership - Why Alignment Matters

I've often talked about brand in terms of being like an API or a handshake. Sometimes when we put our brand out there strongly, the response is "no, not for me." Whether it's a role you interviewed for and weren't selected, or people choosing to leave a team you're managing, it's okay. Sometimes, it's time for a person to move on because they don't feel a strong alignment to the brand and the impact you're driving in the world. What you don't want is people hanging around in the organization feeling disempowered, disconnected, or actively resistant to what you're trying to achieve.

For managers and team leaders, showing up and communicating consistently and authentically on brand does two things: it creates clarity, consistency, and authenticity, which inspires others. They see that in you and think, "I want a piece of that" or "I want to be a part of that." It also powers decision-making. When tough decisions arise, being firmly grounded in your brand helps you know what you are up to in the world, what you are taking a stand for, and why it's important. This grounding in your brand makes decision-making much clearer.
