Brand Is Not How You Look. It’s How You Land.

I keep coming back to this idea: brand is inseparable from impact.
We tend to think brand is external—how we dress, how we speak, how polished the slides are. But what I’m seeing more and more in my work with leaders is this: your brand actually starts with intention. Who you are. What you stand for. How you want to move through the world.
When those internal pieces are clear, the external expression becomes coherent. People feel it. They trust it. They can predict you—and that predictability creates psychological safety.
This is especially true inside organizations. Leaders who are intentional about how they show up don’t just “communicate better.” They accelerate change. Their teams know what they’re about. They know what matters. They know where the north star is.
That's why brand development is just as important for leaders who are IN role as those looking for the next role.

I recently met with a leader who is taking on a new role in an organization that will need to transform the way they work as relates to her space. Most leaders I coach will start with the 'what' - as in, this is all the great stuff we're going to do together. Just because you are excited about the change you are bringing as a leader doesn't mean your stakeholders are ready and psychologically onboard with it. 'Why' and 'How' are more heart-centric. And that is where you need to start.
Try leading your next all hands with two new slides or talking points:
Why? -- This is your impact. Why your stakeholders, customers, the world will be better because of the work you will do together.
How? -- How will you work together to make this happen? Your shared values and approach. For example, you'll be relentlessly collaborative. You'll put the team over individuals. You'll boldly welcome new ideas. I think of this as the culture or approach that will fuel your effort.
Last -- the What. Now that you have your audience head nodding around shared values… you can land the 'What' needs doing.
